R is a software environment for statistical computing and graphics. R is commonly used for Data Analysis, Statistical Computing, Machine Learning algorithms & scientific research.  

This competency area includes slightly advanced concepts of the R programming language such as conditional statements, loops, and functions, writing efficient and readable code, regular expressions in R, data structure manipulations, and times and dates. 

Key Competencies: 

1. Conditionals and Control Flow - Relational operators for comparing R objects, and logical operators like "and" and "or", and more. 
2. Utilities - A solid understanding of a wide range of R functions, knowledge of useful functions for data structure manipulation, regular expressions, and working with times and dates.
