Work Experience

  • Research and teaching assistant

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)•  August 2016 - Present

Working with Sariel Har-Peled. Research interests: computational geometry, randomized & approximation algorithms, combinatorial optimization. I have been a teaching assistant for the following classes at UIUC: - Fall '19: TA for CS473 (Algorithms) - Spring '19: Head TA for CS374 (Intro to Algorithms & Models of Computation), ranked by students as an excellent teacher - Fall '17: TA for CS473 (Algorithms)

  • Software engineering intern

    Google•  November 2015 - February 2016

Worked with the social & discovery team. Built internal tools. Required Java and Javascript.

  • Software engineering intern

    Google•  November 2014 - November 2015

Worked with the Google Chrome team. Developed hosted apps (https://www.omgchrome.com/chrome-for-mac-hosted-app-integration-spotlight/) for Mac. Required C++ and Objective-C.

Education

  • University of Illinois

    Computer Science, PhD•  August 2016 - Present

  • University of Sydney, Sydney

    Computer Science, BS•  February 2012 - November 2015

Completed an honours degree in computer science, taking courses in information technology, computer science, engineering and mathematics. Graduated with a GPA of 6.9. The honours project was in collaboration with Dr. Julian Mestre (University of Sydney, primary supervisor), Dr. Stefan Canzar (Toyota Technology Institute of Chicago), and Dr. Khaled Elbassioni (Masdar Institute of Science and Technology). It focused on developing new algorithms for a theoretical computer science problem with applications in sequence alignment. The implementation and experimentation of these algorithms was completed in Java. Our results showed that these new methods were up to two order of magnitudes faster compared to existing methods, without loss in solution quality. The thesis work was published in the Journal of Computational Biology.
