During a labrotation, I gained insight into the field of bioinformatics by adapting Biotite (Python) source code to match the functionality of an application that my supervisor developed. Both applications assess sequence conservation in nucleotide and protein sequences through per-site entropy calculations in multiple sequence alignments. My work involved profiling the codes of both applications, comparing their runtimes, and evaluating their calculated entropies.
