Work Experience
Research Associate
University of Cambridge•  October 2019 - Present•  Cambridge
Created and curated a collection of 10,000+ GWAS summary statistics. Applied feature engineering and clustering techniques to borrow information from hundreds of common immune-mediated disease datasets and find new associations in rare diseases. Integrated hundreds of GWAS, eQTL/pQTL, and epigenetic datasets to characterise GWAS hits across immune-mediated diseases. Developed RápidoPGS, a polygenic risk score calculator with 14,000+ CRAN downloads. Created two online visualisation tools (IMDbasis and BloodCellBasis Shiny apps). Advocated for Open Data and Open Source Software in the GWAS field, publishing one article. Effectively communicated findings in high-impact articles and presentations. Successfully collaborated with other team members on joint projects.
Postdoctoral research fellow
Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul•  October 2018 - September 2019•  Brazil
Studied the molecular evolution of candidate genes for Zika virus susceptibility. Collaborated in a systematic literature review of clusters of genetic isolates in South America.
PhD Student
Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul•  September 2014 - October 2018•  Brazil
Sequenced and analysed the molecular evolutionary dynamics of serotonergic receptors in hundreds of primates and chordates. Developed strong analytical and communication skills, work ethics, statistical rigorousness, resilience, and adaptability. Demonstrated outstanding project and time management skills.
Undergraduate Honorary Research Fellow
University College London•  September 2011 - June 2014•  UK
Studied APOE polymorphisms with relevance in human health in Andalusian (southern Spain) human populations. Analysed mtDNA haplogroup composition in Andalusian populations. DNA extraction, genotyping by real-time PCR, QC and data analysis.
Research intern
University College London•  July 2013 - September 2013•  UK
Phenotyped 5,000+ volunteers for the CANDELA project (Consortium for the Diversity and Evolution in Latin America), and assisted in QC and data analysis.
