Software Engineer
IBM• January 2017 - August 2019
During my time as a Co-Op and full time developer at IBM in Rochester, Minnesota I was an active member of the IBM Systems group Open Source Emerging Solutions, Serviceability and Globalization teams and I also had the pleasure of serving as the Future Blue Team site President for the Rochester location for 2017. As a part of the IBM Systems Open Source Emerging Solutions Team I was involved with the open source community attempting to increase engagement and get the word out about opportunities available to potential developers on the IBM i platform. In this capacity I participated in a variety of projects ranging from the development of public facing tutorials illustrating web applications utilizing a host of Watson services running on the IBM i environment, to tasks many would consider more applicable to the Systems development group like developing a JSON parser in RPG to handle a newly defined RPG opcode. Serving as the Future Blue Team site President provided me a wealth of networking opportunities, gave me vital leadership experience as the president of a team in charge of providing an engaging internship experience to over 70 active interns at the Rochester location, and opened my eyes to what successful time and people management really means. As a Serviceability team member I worked closely with more established members of the team to respond to customer concerns with the system service tools. As a Globalization team member I helped expand the IBM i operating systems translation service tools for overseas customers primarily in Southeast Asia. During my time on the serviceability and globalization teams I also got the chance to test the DB2Mirror project extensively throughout it's development process.
