It is a program where Vmware people work with Hackerrank to publish challenges.

I'll add some insider insights too. We're also utilizing the Luminary Program to build these kinds of challenges internally that we can use to interview and screen candidates. Ideally, we would like to have an internal library of challenges that any engineering team at VMware could use, regardless of location and/or seniority of the role. This way candidates can receive offers based on their problem solving skills and level of talent, not based on years of experience, the company they've worked for or the school the went to. We would essentially level the playing field and remove bias from the screening process. =)

Does Vmware evaluate the solutions submit by different engineers? As you said that Vmware use these challenges to interview and screen candidates or does the engineers participating in the challenges would also get chance to work with Vmware?

We're not evaluating the solutions that engineers are submitting to the challenges we're posting here, yet, but that's something we're working on. We realize our challenges may look or read a little different than others, but that's because our Luminary Engineers are asked to create challenges that are based on real world work experiences they have from working at VMware.

Our Luminary Program is a work in progress. What do you think? What does anyone and everyone reading this think?

Would you be okay with longer challenges, maybe more difficult challenges, making it harder to get a perfect score, but allowing us (VMware) to see who's consistently coming up with above average solutions?

This could have a positive outcome any way you look at it. We could have a slightly longer more challenging challenge once a month, we get to see who's consistently doing well, for those that maybe don't do as well, we still solve the challenge live giving you the opportunity to learn and get better.

            Thank you for quick reponse.

First of all thank you to Vmware team for sharing real world work experiences which they are learning in Vmware through these challenges. The live session also helping in understanding expert engineer view and chance to discuss with them directly. This is the good way to give people opportunity to learn. Yes it would be nice if Vmware use this platform to give opportunities to participants to be part of Vmware team.

The idea of more real world challenges sounds interesting, but so far all of them came along with quite detailed explanation of algorithm to use. It makes challenges hmm... less challenging. And, of course, I keen on harder challenges.
